EYE CARE: LACK OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY(CSR)

RNA Trust(R) together with Sanjeevani Netralaya eye hospital did a glaucoma awareness camp on 3rd April 2013 with a completely free eye glaucoma check up by the Glaucoma Specialist Dr.Rajesh Parekh.

86 patients attended the check up.It was a surprise to see that as many as 8 patients had untreated glaucoma and others had cataract, refractive errors and diabetic retinopathy.

Complete visual fields with Intraocular pressure check ups have helped the patients. One underwent a very successful YAG iridotomy.

The contribution of Daily Salar newspaper must be acknowledged.Sadly other corporates in and around Infantry Road,Bangalore had no role in creating awareness. So much for Corporate Social Responsibility!!

GLAUCOMA- CREATE AWARENESS

As the world's population ages,Glaucoma is becoming an increasingly important cause of blindness.
Statistics gathered by WHO (2002 published in this edition of the Bulletin  by Resnikoff et al)show that glaucoma is now the second leading cause of blindness globally, after cataract
The prevalence of glaucoma in adults over the age of forty years is estimated to be about 2.5-3.0% in rural India. (Aravind Comprehensive Eye Survey, 1993). Although infants and children can rarely be affected, glaucoma is more common in the adult population.
At Sanjeevani Netralaya,Bangalore  is equipped with the diagnostic tools, such as the recent version of Humphrey's automated perimeter & Goldman Applanation Tonometer to diagnose glaucoma at very early stages even before there is significant loss of vision.A free check up is organised every year for the public to create awareness.
“Glaucoma is a silent thief of sight. Glaucoma Week is to increase awareness about the disease so that we can fight against glaucoma and do not let it darken your life.”

Indeed Lord Buddha's saying rings out "Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared."
