A SPIRITUAL MEDICAL JOURNEY ?

The light grew fuller, growing into the early morning. The mist cleared slowly and reveled the path leading to a  Hospital,Lapod in Pali District,Rajasthan. It was the start to another a medical camp or was it a spiritual pursuit?

The annual surgical and medical eye camp 2015 at Moti Hospital. This hospital was built in 1956 by Shri Motilalji Dhanrajji for the welfare of this village and the surrounding villages like Kenpura,Dhola, etc. At one time it was the only health centre for miles and miles.
Patients started lining up as early as 7am inspite of this dense mist.A sign that the last eye camp about a year back was a great success
The eye camp doctor,Dr.Rajesh Parekh,Medical Director of RNA Trust with the team of Lions Eye Hospital,Rani Village,Pali screened about 400 patients and distributed about 200 free spectacles and 200 eye drops .30 patients were selected to undergo cataract and pterygium surgery..

ROTARACT CLUB OF BANGALORE-SANJEEVANI NETRALAYA RURAL EYE CAMP

The Golden Rock Rotaract Club of Bangalore organised a simple eye screening camp with Sanjeevani Netralaya providing the medical team.
Every Individual including the ones in rural India should get access to quality health care.Awareness about eye health and disease prevention percolates to these areas of India only with the help of team works like Golden Rock Rotaract Club of Bangalore.
These young individuals spent an entire week into planning to an eye care program to the door step of Bagalur-Sarjapura,near Bangalore and Hosur.
On 29th September 2013, this entusiastic team initiatives  reached to this place and thus created a viable, sustainable program for health care.Sanjeevani Netralaya ,Bangalore worked in tandem and integrated their program into an unique eye camp.
Diseases like Diabetic retinopathy ,Glaucoma and Cataracts were detected. What was special here was the emphasis to rehabilitate a few young children with congenital eye defects into a program for the visually handicap. The counselling  done by the rotaracts like Shashi,Manjunath,Jeju, and others will go miles to improve eye care in this village.

Sanjeevani Netralaya provided about 50 free spectacles ,about 50-70 free eye drops and detected 32 patients with cataract.
The present eye care intervention strategy of the Club and Sanjeevani Netralaya could bring significant changes in awareness and behavior of rural people regarding management of their eye problems and hygiene.

EYE CARE: LACK OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY(CSR)

RNA Trust(R) together with Sanjeevani Netralaya eye hospital did a glaucoma awareness camp on 3rd April 2013 with a completely free eye glaucoma check up by the Glaucoma Specialist Dr.Rajesh Parekh.

86 patients attended the check up.It was a surprise to see that as many as 8 patients had untreated glaucoma and others had cataract, refractive errors and diabetic retinopathy.

Complete visual fields with Intraocular pressure check ups have helped the patients. One underwent a very successful YAG iridotomy.

The contribution of Daily Salar newspaper must be acknowledged.Sadly other corporates in and around Infantry Road,Bangalore had no role in creating awareness. So much for Corporate Social Responsibility!!

GLAUCOMA- CREATE AWARENESS

As the world's population ages,Glaucoma is becoming an increasingly important cause of blindness.
Statistics gathered by WHO (2002 published in this edition of the Bulletin  by Resnikoff et al)show that glaucoma is now the second leading cause of blindness globally, after cataract
The prevalence of glaucoma in adults over the age of forty years is estimated to be about 2.5-3.0% in rural India. (Aravind Comprehensive Eye Survey, 1993). Although infants and children can rarely be affected, glaucoma is more common in the adult population.
At Sanjeevani Netralaya,Bangalore  is equipped with the diagnostic tools, such as the recent version of Humphrey's automated perimeter & Goldman Applanation Tonometer to diagnose glaucoma at very early stages even before there is significant loss of vision.A free check up is organised every year for the public to create awareness.
“Glaucoma is a silent thief of sight. Glaucoma Week is to increase awareness about the disease so that we can fight against glaucoma and do not let it darken your life.”

FOOTSTEPS INTO PALI DISTRICT,RAJASTHAN

RNA(R) Trust took its first footsteps into Pali District of Rajasthan. The maiden camp at Motilal Hospital , Lapod.

Lapod is a Village in Sumerpur Mandal , Pali District , Rajasthan State . Lapod is 15 kms from Rani station and is 41.5 km distance from its District Main City Pali . Other villages near by are Sumerpur , Balupura , Basant , Birami , and Chanod. Lapod has a PHC but eye health care hardly has made its reach into this village.

RNA Trust through Project Moksh provided the villagers to utilise the services of Sanjeevani Netralaya,Bangalore.

Dr.Rajesh Parekh, and his team got Refraction services with Cataract, cornea,Glaucoma and Retinal Examination to their door step.It was indeed a fruitful venture as eeach and every villager made his/her way to the Hospital founded by Late.Sri.Motilal Dhanrajji.Free glasses and eye medication were provided.

Indeed Lord Buddha's saying rings out "Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared."
